“Teach them to your children, talking about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise.” – Deuteronomy 11:19
St. Mary of the Woods School offers a rigorous curriculum, with Christ at the center, for grades preschool through grade 8. Our school is accredited by the Kentucky Non-Public School Commission and is a member of the National Catholic Education Association. We are located in southeastern Daviess County, a block off of Hwy 54 in Whitesville, Kentucky. St. Mary’s is one of seven parochial schools in the Diocese of Owensboro. St. Mary’s was founded in 1879 and has been serving the Whitesville and neighboring communities with Catholic education for over 135 years.
St. Mary of the Woods School seeks to inspire excellence in all students through faith, academics, and service in a learning environment and community that encourages high expectations for student growth and success.
Every child is a gift uniquely created by God to be a member of the human family, community, and nation. Parents are the first teachers and are always an influence in the child’s life. The Catholic School educators provide a partnership with parents for Catholic faith formation and for learning in all academic areas of study. The Catholic diocesan bishop and the pastor share the teaching mission of Jesus with Catholic School teachers, staff, and administrators. Their gifts of service contribute to the growth of the Church and help children to mature in the knowledge of, commitment to, and practice of their faith, as they “put on the mind of Christ,” the Master Teacher.
